I have just updated this tour with a whole swag of brilliant new roads including some that have just been sealed for the 1st time, opening a vast new area to go exploring. As usual we use lots of little known roads, breathtaking scenery and plenty of stops along the way to take in the local colour.
The Schedule
Any time is a great time to head into the mountains all it takes is a few degrees drop in temperature and your car always seems to be at it’s best. So we have put together an 800 km 2 day drive taking in some great, empty roads, wonderful scenery, a memorable dinner and very comfortable accommodation.
Saturday we head west to Windsor before taking to the back roads around the foothills of the mountains. We then take the Bells Line of Road over the mountains before tackling some stunning roads on the way to Oberon for lunch. There is more of the same after lunch as we wind our way into Goulburn for the night. Our accommodation includes a Cooked Breakfast as part of the cost of the tour.
Sunday is all new. There is some new roads south of Goulburn that are uncrowded and wonderful to drive on. They open up a very seeing part of the state that has been hidden to most of us. We wind our way to the coast before running up and down the escarpment on a couple of other roads that have been sealed recently. There is a great lunch stop with sweeping views of the coast before hitting a few old favourite haunts on our way to more little backroads heading back to the Hume Highway for the run home.
The roads
are all sealed except for 1.1 Km of very smooth dirt (even the McLaren driver had no concerns driving through this), they carry little traffic through breathtaking scenery with corners that are frequent and entertaining.
The Cars
Bring your favourite car or whatever you think will be suitable or select one of our fleet of Boxsters for hire if you want to be introduced to pleasures of Porsche power on the sort of roads they were built for.
The Cost
$650/car. This includes all accommodation and a cooked breakfast and a detailed road-book so you can find all the best roads. I will be there to smooth the way and ensure everyone can stay on track.
