Day 8 and we are back on the road after a well earned rest at everyone’s favourite hotel, Borgo Scopeto. We took time for a photo in front of the hotel before winding our way to the walls of San Gimignano and into the hills behind the western coast of Italy. Lunch was at lovely spot on a hill overlooking La Spezia harbour and then it was onto the Cinque Terra, about as a stunning place as you will find anywhere.
Our hotel for the night was the legendary Hotel Splendido in Portofino. This place has been THE place to be seen for decades with a steady stream of the rich and famous gracing the bar, and us of course. Dinner was at a quayside restaurant, great food, brilliant people watching, a magical setting with the castle on the hill, super yachts, fishing fleet and the cobblestoned piazza.
