Snowy Mountains Tour
April 13, 2122
If you could choose anywhere in Australia for a few days driving on brilliant roads through spectacular countryside, the Snowy Mountains would have to be at the top of your list. This Tour will seek out the best of the deserted alpine roads, picturesque villages and wonderful accommodation and great meals.
The Roads
The roads are all sealed, they carry little traffic through breathtaking scenery with corners that are frequent and entertaining. We take pride in seeking out little-known backroads to get you away from the maddening crowd.
The Accommodation
The accommodation is based at the Banjo Patterson Hotel in Jindabyne. The Banjo has had a big upgrade in recent years and our tours have been delighted with the relaxed comfort and exceptional food.
The Schedule
The schedule has been planned to be as flexible as possible. Apart from the overnight stops, you can set your own timetable. Follow the route chart through the Country Roads or take a short cut to the next stop or take time out to sight see or bush walk.
The Scenery
The scenery is spectacular. All roads used have a good sealed surface. Traffic is very light and this is an ideal time of year.
The Cars
Bring your favourite car we have had all sorts of vehicles from Ferraris to Hyundais, what you drive is not as important as how much fun will you have driving it.
Day 1. Sydney – Jindabyne
Leave home and head to Marulan where we take to the back roads. There are some wonderful roads around the back of Lake George. We then head down the highway to Cooma before exploring more back roads on the way to Jindabyne and our home for the night.
Day 2. Jindabyne – Jindabyne
The mountain loop
There is an easy start to the day with a quiet run through Jindabyne, before things liven up on the way to Adaminaby which is a great place for a break. We then head west on the Snowy Mountains Highway and into the National Park and the old goldfields around Kiandra. Then onto an amazing road through the heart of the mountains to Australia’s highest town, Cabramurra before snaking through valleys and peaks to Khancoban. We then join the legendary Alpine Way and head back to Lake Crackenback via a secret spot on the banks of the Murray River.
Day 3. Jindabyne – Sydney
First up this morning there are some wonderful, deserted, high country roads through a unique landscape, I am sure you will be impressed with the loop through Dalgety to Cooma onto the Monaro and back to Canberra. Just short of the Capital we head into the amazing Brindabella Ranges. You can then choose to stay in Canberra for the night of head up the freeway to home.
