Day 8. Maranello – Siena
A bit of a sleep in today which was absolutely required. Then spent the morning booking restaurants, talking to hotels and washing what was our new car on 5 days ago. It now has 3,500km on the clock and grime from most of Europe. The challenge today was to check the road-book for the 1 st day of the tour. All started well with a beautiful drive into the Appinnes and the down into Tuscany. It is a wonderful drive lots of tiny villages stitched to the hillside. The trouble started when a brand new road appeared where the old goat track was supposed to be. That wasted well over an hour trying to figure where the new road came back onto the old road. I am not saying it was frustrating but once we worked it out there was a drinks break in a small café in the Tuscan hills, if that doesn’t make it better nothing will. The next challenge was navigating through Siena to our turn off for the hotel. Last year I took half a day to manage this year only about 30 minutes. At least the tour party will be able to follow the road book with confidence.
The hotel tonight is the Borgo Scopeto, an amazing place. We were met by the General Manager and his secretary who invited us to pre-dinner drinks. Woohoo.
