The Route Napoleon yesterday was a very impressive warm up but today we ventured into the Alps with major passes in France, Italy and Switzerland. The day started with a run along the Autoroute to Albertville before heading into the hills and morning pastries in Beaufort. It was then onto the first Col of the day Cormet de Roselend at 1968 metres. We managed to stumble upon a group of Lotus cars (brought a tear to Ian’s eye). Other than that the traffic was very light so we had a great drive.

The most spectacular climbs of the day were The Petit St Bernard out of Aosta (remember the Lambo during the opening sequence of the original Italian Job) cue, Mat Monroe and Sunglasses. Only to be topped by the St Bernard Grande. Magic stuff and a great spot for lunch and a quiet run down the mountain and into Martigny for an early afternoon and a well earned rest.
